According to the Japan Meteorological Association, the cherry blossoms in Kagawa Prefecture are expected to bloom around the average date of March 25th this year. You must have been excited by now.
So, based on my past experiences capturing many scenes, I’ve compiled a list of recommended spots! Each spot could be a perfect shot, I believe! I’ve also included some insights from previous articles. Please consider it as a reference for your leisure activities. Enjoy exploring!
The night cherry blossoms at Shikanoidesui are extraordinary! (Takamatsu City)
The cherry tree-lined path along Shikanoidesui, quietly cherished among locals for many years. Over the past few years, it has gradually gained attention as a hidden spot verified on Instagram. I highly recommend capturing the night cherry blossoms reflected on the river surface here!
Cherry blossoms, unique Seto Inland Sea villages, and cats on the island of Ogi .(Takamatsu City)
Ogi island is one of the stages for the “Setouchi International Art Festival” and it was formerly well-known as a cat island. Despite the recent decline in the cat population, it remains famous. The 40-minute boat trip from Takamatsu Port is ideal for escaping reality.
This island, with its unique Seto Inland Sea villages, offers unexpectedly vibrant cherry blossoms and a photogenic backdrop of ships traversing the Seto Inland Sea. It’s actually a highly recommended island for capturing picturesque cherry blossom scenes.
Highly recommended for families: Takamatsu Airport Park! (Takamatsu City)
Despite its large size and abundance of cherry blossoms, Takamatsu Airport Park is surprisingly not often featured. With playground equipment and expansive lawns, it’s an ideal destination, especially for families.
If you want to leisurely enjoy cherry blossoms on the grass, visit Busshozan Park. (Takamatsu City)
Busshozan Park is renowned as one of the top cherry blossom spots in Takamatsu City. Throughout the vast and lush grounds, you can find splendid Somei Yoshino cherry trees. The park is picturesque from any angle, making it a dilemma when deciding how to capture its beauty. Relax and savor the spring atmosphere on the benches and grassy areas scattered throughout the park.
The cherry blossoms at Shirotori Onsen are beautifully dense. (Higashikagawa City)
The cherry blossoms near Shirotori Onsen attract locals every year. The distinctive feature of the cherry blossoms here is their densely packed and high-density bloom. If you’re aiming to capture the cherry blossoms themselves, this location is highly recommended.
Kikaku Park offers multifaceted enjoyment during both day and night! (Sanuki City)
Kikaku Park in Sanuki City’s Nagao area offers a breathtaking landscape reminiscent of Amanohashidate. On weekends, it buzzes with many visitors, and finding a parking space can be a bit challenging. However, once inside the park, the extensive grounds allow for a relatively spacious and relaxed experience.
Cherry blossoms and railway photography at Kotoden Kazashigaoka Station. (Ayagawa Town)
A must-capture scene for both cherry blossom and railway enthusiasts is the combination of sakura (cherry blossoms) and a local train line. Kotoden Kazashigaoka Station is a secretly popular spot for snapping nice, spring-themed photos. With a bridge spanning the tracks, even beginners can easily capture photos like the one above.
Since there’s no parking nearby, why not take a ride on the Kotoden to get there!
The breathtaking cherry blossoms along the Kaiganji temple view worthy of nationwide television broadcast. (Tadotsu Town)
The serene Seto Inland Sea harmonizing with cherry blossoms creates a rare landscape! There’s even a story about NHK’s 4K broadcasting team intending to make a brief stop but ended up staying for a whole week.
With cherry blossoms scattered throughout the expansive grounds, why not take a stroll with a camera in hand and enjoy the scenery?
Fudo Waterfall in Mitoyo City, where the stunning harmony of a waterfall and cherry blossoms unfolds.
Another popular spot is in the Mitoyo-Kanonji area. The charm lies not only in the large cherry blossom trees blooming freely but also in the collaboration with Fudo Waterfall and the flowing stream. Be sure to aim for that picturesque combination.
Shiudeyama bathed in the color of cherry blossoms! (Mitoyo City)
Shiunzanyama in Takuma, Mitoyo City, is a breathtaking spot where the mountain is bathed in the color of cherry blossoms, with the islands of the Seto Inland Sea in the background. In previous years, it was so crowded that cars couldn’t move, but in recent times, it has become a reservation-only system, allowing visitors to enjoy the view at a more leisurely pace.
For information on advance reservations, please visit the website of the Mitoyo City Tourism and Exchange Bureau.
